Where to Live Stream From Series #2... IRL vs Mobile
Feb 22, 2026
Live Streaming is typically associated with a studio style setup with all the appropriate set dressings such as wall hangings, potted plants, book shelves with all manner of props set on them for ambiance and personality and accent lighting for emphasis.
BUT, Live Streaming does not have to be limited to a fixed indoor setting. IRL Live Streaming is VERY popular in different parts of the world and in specific niches.
You can also just Live Stream on location at an event or from your vehicle. I have done both of these techniques and it is a lot of fun and a little challenging.
There are two distinct ways of doing these types of Live Streams…
– Using Browser based software such as Evmux, Talk Studio or Streamyard on a mobile device and…
– Backpack Systems such as LiveU and running OBS or similar for a more polished Live Stream.
Let's tackle the IRL Backpack Systems first.
There is a significant monetary outlay to setup a backpack IRL Live Stream as it involves multiple sources of internet connection, such as cellular service, that can be automatically switched between when one drops out.
You will need a smaller portable computer or equivalent, capable of accepting your camera and mic inputs and can also run the streaming software of your choice.
You will also need power in the form of batteries to run all the equipment for an amount of time that allows you to Live Stream for the length of time you want without fear of it dying mid stream.
And, obviously, a backpack to secure it all in that is comfortable enough to wear while you are Live Streaming wherever that may be.
In contrast, Live Streaming from a mobile device using a browser based software, a wireless mic and a tripod with a phone holder to hold your mobile device can afford you an amazing amount of flexibility of where you can stream from so long as you have cellular service to maintain the data connection to your Social Media platform and battery power.
All the browser based software's have a free plan that you can use but with some form of watermark branding on screen. The paid versions typically remove this watermark and some even increase the resolution you are allowed to stream with.
Depending on which browser based software you choose, you can create a Live Stream with almost as much flare and professionalism as a dedicated desktop software.
The key to making IRL and mobile Live Streaming viable and interesting is in the preparation in advance of the Live Stream. Have a plan and work the plan if you will.
