Set Design-Where to Live Stream From Series #1

Feb 15, 2026

Now I want to preface this post with this, my strong suit is not in interior design.   What I am Very Good at is being able to look and listen to a set and know what may be wrong or needs to be adjusted to make it look and sound good on camera and on a mic.

How do YOU do that and keep your sanity?   Read on…

Your set design cannot merely appear as if it belongs on the cover of “Homes and Garden”, it must function as a fully functioning Live Streaming environment.

For the business professional delivering from a stage, executive boardroom, or corporate venue, the same production standards apply.

For nearly a century, Hollywood has operated under a foundational production sequence that remains just as relevant today:

Audio, Lights, Camera, Action... in that order.

Your set, whether it is a small corner in a room...

or a dedicated presentation stage...

Or if you are IRL Mobile...

your very first consideration must be audio.   How does it sound on a mic, no matter what you have on the walls or in the space for the desired ambiance.

Your set design also has to look good on a camera.  How do you do that?  You accomplish that with the correct lighting for the set, ambiance and camera used.

I subscribe to the C.A.M.P. method of lighting your set.

C.A.M.P. acronym stands for…

Composition, Ambient Light, Modify or Add Light, Pose for the camera.

When you apply this method to your set design, you will see where your set shines, where an object needs to be added or removed or placed into a different location in the set or add more or specific items.

If you are looking to create a dedicated Live Streaming space, do some research on what other Content Creators or Business Professionals are doing and compare their designs with the vision of your set.

Ask them what cameras, Lights, or microphones THEY are using, and then ask them why they chose those.

Set design is the most personal and niche specific thing you will ever have to do in live Streaming.

But does it have to all be indoors only???   More on this next week.

In the meantime, do you have more questions than answers…
