Tech Tuesday, Camera Choices #3
Feb 24, 2026
Deciding on what camera to use for your Live Stream can be a challenge for many. The amount of choices available are almost staggering.
But, for the Business Professional and the Established Content Creator, the broad amount of choices in cameras allow for Live Streaming in almost any environment or situation.
For the Business Professional, a high quality and produced Live Stream is typically what your viewers come to expect. The camera you choose should give you that.
The cameras used in these scenarios are surprisingly not overly expensive. Effectively unless you are Live Streaming the next blockbuster MCU Avenger type movie featuring the current President of the United States, you do not need a $42,000 Red Digital Cinema V-Rapter XL 8K camera.
Cameras such as the Sony Alpha Series and the FX series with full frame sensors will give you an amazing quality image with the correct lenses for the location.
On the higher end you can also consider the Canon C100, C300, C500 series cameras. These are more dedicated cinema cameras but are excellent choices in the right environments.
For the Established Content Creator, a similar level of professionalism can be had by the same cameras, but are not necessary depending on the Live Stream format you choose.
There are many highly produced Live Streams from very well Established Content Creators that run their business using nothing but a Cell Phone for their camera.
There is now a camera for virtually any scenario and every budget.
From $25-$50 fixed webcams, $50-$500 PTZ webcams, crop sensor cameras from $500-1500, full frame cameras from around $2000 and up plus lenses to the big dogs, the Cinema cameras from $4000 and up plus lenses and accessories.
For some of you, the adage, “use what you already have" may be a good starting point, i.e. your cell phone.
My personal advice… If you do not have a camera capable of Live Streaming, start with your cell phone and work out all the gremlins in your stream then choose a better dedicated camera.
If you are ready to purchase a dedicated Live Streaming camera, here are my personal preferences…
Lumix G7, crop sensor, I personally have 7 years of usage on one of these, Sony A7s models, Obsbot PTZ cameras, Sony ZV-E1 full frame and the ZV-E10 crop sensor.
If you pick any one of these, you will have a great image for your Live Stream and your viewers.
Until next time, let's stay in touch…
