Building and Broadening Your Fan Base

I touched on this in the previous Why Wednesday post.   The ROI of Live Streaming cannot be measured in the same way you would measure Ad spend on an ad campaign.

The true ROI of Live Streaming is in the broadening and deepening of your fan base.

The 4 largest examples of this broadening and deepening of a fan base are Star Trek, Star Wars, Dr Who and Taylor Swift.   Yea I know I know, I am a SciFi nut so what is Taylor Swift doing in the list?

Well, she, as well as the other IP’s, have found a way into the hearts, minds and culture of their respective fan base.   The Fan loyalty for these 4 examples borders on Fanatic Cultism.

One of those ways that all 4 have used is “Branding” of their fans.

For Taylor Swift, her fans are branded “Swifties” and they wear it openly.   You can see it any time just a couple of them get in the same room together.

Start Trek is no different, they are Branded Trekkies or Trekkers.   Give them a Comicon and they come out by the ten’s of thousand’s just to be around others of like mindedness and have a chance to meet one of their favorite actors that play a favorite character.

Star Wars is similar but different in the fact that in its world, there are different factions to identify with.   From Jedi to Rebel, to the Empire.   And as to the Comicons?   Yea it is the only place you will see Star Wars and Star Trek intermingle without a rip in the space time continuum or an inter stellar war.

And not to leave out a true fan favorite, Dr Who, similar to Star Wars and Star Trek, has multi generational fans since all 3 of these have now been around for 50 and 60+ years.   The Whoniverse is filled with its Whovian fan base of all ages, and they are just as rabidly passionate about it as the others.

Have you picked up on the connection between these 4 IP’s yet???   It's in the branded Identifying.   It’s Taylor Swift, Swifties… Star Trek, Trekkers/Trekkies…  Star Wars, Jedi and Empire… Dr Who, Whovians.

With your brand, how does your fan base identify with you??? It does not matter whether you are an Established Content Creator or a Business Professional, how is your following associating themselves with you???   How are you associating yourself with them???

Take a page out of these 4 IP’s playbook and start building, broadening and deepening your connection to your Live Streaming fan base/following.
