Software Saturday #3 - Streaming Software - StreamYard
Mar 08, 2026
StreamYard, one of the early Browser Based Live Streaming applications available to the general public, came to prominence in 2018.
But what is StreamYard? It is a browser-based live streaming and recording platform designed to make professional broadcasts accessible to anyone with an internet connection no matter what device is used.
Its cloud-based design simplifies production by handling the heavy lifting of Live Streaming such as the technical aspects of encoding and distributing the stream.
This is a major advantage if your equipment or internet connection is on the marginal side of the required specs to Live Stream.
Some of the key features of StreamYard are…
#1 A Browser Based Studio
StreamYard operates entirely on the web through a browser window. This feature allows for easy access for guests just by clicking a link making it exceptionally easy to host interviews, trainings or panel discussions.
#2 Multistreaming
StreamYard is capable of sending out your one Live Stream to multiple Social Media platforms simultaneously without bogging down your streaming device.
#3 Branding and Layout
StreamYard has built-in production features such as custom overlays, banners, logos, backgrounds, timers, and multiple on screen layout options that you as the streamer can select between on the fly while Live.
#4 Recording and Repurposing
Streamyard is capable of recording automatically which allows you to download the stream later for editing and or repurposing into shorter clips for social media and other content platforms.
StreamYard has 3 main levels of usage.
– The free version has a watermark and you are limited to 720p resolution, limited time streaming, only 1 stream destination and 6 on screen guests and 2 hours of recording.
– The second is the Core Plan, a paid version, which removes the watermark, streams at 1080p and allows 3 destinations, 10 on screen guests, custom logos, overlays, video clips and backgrounds.
– The third is the Advanced Plan, a paid version, which allows for 4k streaming and local recordings, 8 destinations, 15 on screen guests and more.
So who is StreamYard actually for?
StreamYard is particularly suited for the Content Creator, Business Professional, educator or organization that does not have the need or desire to get into the finer details of a streaming software to set it up wherever their need arises.
StreamYard has powerful enough branding and guest management features as well as multistreaming capabilities to run almost any manner of Live Stream needed, such as webinars, podcasts, product debuts, one on one interviews and panel discussions.
In short, StreamYard is a reasonably good mix of form and function in as simple of a format as is possible and it is cloud based through a browser window.
If your need is to have a streaming setup that is simple and light on the hardware or you are mobile device based then you have found what you are looking for in StreamYard.
Here is the link to find StreamYard…
But there are others, stay tuned for those posts in the coming weeks.
Until then…
