Looking Good on Camera with your mic.
Presentation Presentation Presentation…
It is a foregone conclusion that if you do not sound good on camera no one is going to watch whatever it is you have created… BUT…
There is definitely something to be said for how good your mic looks on camera.
Many content creators use microphones that are overkill for what they are creating and some have spent thousands of dollars just to have that “Look”.
The most common “Professional” looking and recognized microphone currently used today is the Shure SM7B. WHY???
It’s not the easiest mic to get a good sound out of. It’s gain hungry and requires a Cloud Lifter preamp just to get most audio interfaces to work well with it… So again… WHY???
Honestly, it’s mainly because it is viewed as a status symbol more than anything else.
Joe Rogan uses it, Tucker Carleson uses it, The Broski Report uses it, The Unsubscribe Podcast uses it and GaryVee uses it.

Why shouldn’t YOU use it? They do!!!
Certainly you can!!! But you do not have to spend the well over $600+ price tag for everything needed to make this mic sound good just to look good on camera, you have options… many that will look and sound just as good with your voice.
Here are a few VERY good looking and sounding mics that you may not have even thought of…
Fifine K688… Rode Pod Mic… SE Dynacaster… Fifine K669D

But what if you want a more classic look…
Memphis Blue… Heil Fin Mic… Classic Mic… Blue Baby Bottle Mic

Or if you are more of a late night talk show type…
Lewitt LCT 240… Behringer BV44… 512 Script… PROAR XLR

Most of these microphones are around $100 or less and all sound and look good on camera.
So unless you ABSOLUTELY have to have a Shure SM7B… you have options and quite frankly many of them look even better then the Shure in my opinion.
If you have any other thoughts on mics, leave a comment below.
Until the next time I post, let's stay connected…
