Format Thursday, Live Stream Format #2
Feb 19, 2026
I have conducted, been on and run from behind the camera a number of different types of Live Streams over the last 8 years. And through all those Live Streams, I have come to the conclusion... I enjoy all the different types of streams, all for different reasons.
But you cannot do them all as you will play to some and lose others that are watching. It comes back to the saying many of us have heard… If you are everything for everyone, you are nothing for no one.
This comes back to niching down, even to what format you decide on for your Live Streams. It needs to work with your primary niche and audience.
There will be some that absolutely love Talking Head Q&A / Shop Talk / Shoot the Bull Session /Hanger Talk, and then there will be some that prefer a Structured / Segmented entertainment show, and yet others that will prefer IRL (in real life) Live Streams out in new locations.
For me I have settled in on a hybrid Live Stream that will suit both my needs to be able to teach and share my thoughts on a topic and do an open Q&A about that topic while having direct live contact with the viewers. I will announce when that goes live here soon.
It also affords me to be able to clip the topical front end monologue for later repurposing as well as any pertinent Q&A’s that come up later in the stream.
This type of Live Stream can be run as a Live Podcast as well with guests pertinent to the topic.
So as you can see, for me this will be a win win win as Live Streams go in my eyes. But what about you?
Where do you and your audience fall in relation to your niche, your potential business and your desires in relation to Live Streaming and connecting to your audience in a more intimate personable way?
Remember there is no wrong answer here. And if what you choose first does not work out format wise, pivot to a different format that does.
Above all give it time to gain traction before you decide to pivot.
Creating live content is not an exact science, but there are a number of factors, practices and principles we can look back on and take cues from that will aid you in choosing and running a viable Live Stream for you and yours no matter which format you choose.
That will be your homework assignment if you will. Do some research on Live Streams that are in and out of your niche and dissect them to see why they work for that Live Streamer and his or her audience.
Document what niche, topic and format they are using. Are they interacting with the Live Chat? Is the Chat active? Do they have Moderators? Are they monetized? Do they run a Members Only Live Stream? How many Subscribers versus how many Live viewers do they have in a Live Stream?
Report back in the comments and let me know which format you have chosen and why… This inquiring mind wants to know.
In the meantime, do you have more questions than answers…
