Format Thursday #3 - Fear and Live Presentations

As part of your business, do you need to do Live remote presentations  to your stakeholders or board members?

If so, great… this one is for you!!!

I have sat in a number of training and remote classes and meetings over the years.   The one thing that was the absolute worst part about it all was the presenter themselves.

Live remote presentations to board members are no different.   How YOU present is more important than the information you are presenting to them.

So often, having to present pertinent information to a Board of Directors or financial Stakeholders live, whether in person or remotely, can cause your blood to run as cold as the surface of Pluto.

How do you handle this format then?

Glad you asked… 

First and foremost be prepared.   You are expected to be the expert on the subject matter you are to present.   Do your research and have topical notes in the event you have questions that need to be answered after the presentation.

Secondly, have enough graphics or slides to portray or visually represent the information.   The old adage, a picture is worth a thousand words, is very true in this format of Live presentation.   Imparting information is dramatically easier when those watching can see pictorially what you are saying with your words.

Thirdly, stand up and take charge.   Whether the information you are presenting is positive or negative, everyone is there to hear what YOU have to say about.   That presence comes through on camera when you own everything you say.

Fourthly, having someone available to run the slides and manage the scene changes in the sequence you need, allows you to stay fully focused on what matters most, delivering your presentation.   With the technical elements handled behind the scenes, you are free to focus on your message and better connect with your audience.

There you have it… #1 Be Prepared, #2 Have visual aids, #3 Own the room, #4 Have help.

Sounds simple, it is!!!   But, it takes time, preparation and repetitions.  

Like anything else, the more you do it the better you get at it.
