Presentation Skills Series #1

How you present your topic as well as yourself on camera is uniquely important when you are Live Streaming… There are no “Do Overs”.

How you present is directly related to your Live Stream Format.

For example…

You would not present on a Live Stream Webinar in the same way that you would on a Live Stream Entertainment Show.

When presenting is done right and in accordance with your chosen format, Live Streams can be very impactful for whatever message you are sharing with your audience.

So here are some do’s and don’ts for Live Stream presentations…

#1 Interact with you Live Chat!!!

There is no point in Live Streaming if you ignore the Social part of Social Media in the form of the Live Chat.   Your audience wants to be connected to you, and in a Live Stream there is no better way then through the Live Chat.

#2  Be Prepared

It does not matter which Format or Niche you choose, do your research and have notes ready.   There is nothing more disheartening than to watch a Live Stream where the presenter can not even answer basic questions on their main topic of interest.   In short… Don’t Wing It!!!

#3  Be Prepared, yes it is on here twice for a reason!!

Live Streaming has a lot of moving parts that if just one goes awry and you do not have a backup plan or backup piece of hardware, you are done and have to end the stream prematurely.   So check and double check your hardware, software and your backups before you Go Live.

#4  Live Stream as often as you can… in the beginning.

You have no idea in the beginning when or how often Going Live will fit into your Social Media content plan or when your audience would prefer you to be Live Streaming to them.   It takes a little time and testing of the waters to find the right time slot and frequency of Live Streaming for you and your audience.   But once you have that figured out, stick to that schedule as your audience will come to expect you to be there on time and ready to roll.

#5  TALK TO THE CAMERA!!!

I can not tell you how many times I see an Established Content Creator looking at the selfie screen or the confidence monitor.   Its annoying and breaks the potential connection with your audience.   Business Professionals tend to have less of an issue with this as typically they are not in the room alone Live Streaming, they tend to have an actual camera man whom they are able to speak at.

As a side note to this… I am guilty as all get out of doing this myself, even though I know better, so do not beat yourself up too much over this… just so better.

More on this topic in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.

In the meantime, do you have more questions than answers…
