Could You Go Live In A Pinch?
Jul 05, 2026
I was messaging back and forth with a Content Creator friend recently as there was some severe weather heading his and another Content Creator friend's way. I wanted to make sure they were OK and if they needed something.
We got to kidding a little and I messaged him that he should get his phone out, a USB mic and a flashlight and go Live showing the weather he was dealing with.
That conversation sparked the thought… Could you go Live in a pinch?
Now for me, I carry with me a complete Podcast capable setup in a backpack as backup for one, as I run Live Streams twice a week. Also, if a potential opportunity presents itself I could be setup and ready to go Live on most any Social Media platform I chose in 15 to 20 minutes and interview 1 to 4 individuals.
Now you may be saying to yourself, but I do not do what you do, and that is a fair and accurate observation.
But the question still stands…
--Could you go Live in a pinch?
--What would it take?
--What do you need?
--What do you have to pull it off?
Let's start with the first question… Could you go Live in a pinch? The short answer is YES, we all carry cell phones or a tablet that is capable of an internet connection either by cellular data or via WiFi. It has a camera, a microphone and the ability to connect to your preferred Social Media platform to Go Live on.
Now let’s take it a little deeper with a little extra equipment. Let’s add a decent wired or wireless lavalier mic. This one item just raised the quality of your Live Stream easily 10 fold. Remember, no matter who your audience is, they will forgive OK video, but they will roast you or just click away if your audio is not up to par.
What about lighting? During daytime hours, the sun is just fine to cast the correct amount of light on you. But do not face directly into the sun or you will be squinting into the camera. Conversely, do not have the sun directly at your back either as your face will be in shadow versus your background. If the sun is directly overhead, a ball cap, sunglasses or getting under a tree or awning cover to get in the shade all work to allow you to be seen easily on camera.
But what if it is not daytime? You will need some type of lighting for you to be able to be seen on camera. My comment to my friend about getting a flash light was said tongue in cheek, but in a pinch shining a flashlight on a reflective surface to light your smiling face up on camera is a viable option if that is what you have available to you. You can use whatever light source you have available, street lights, business lighting, candles, etc.
Lastly, there are browser based Live Streaming applications that allow you to create more elaborate scenes, bring in guests from around the world and add other content from your device or the internet all from your cellular device anywhere you might be as long as you have an internet connection either from cellular data or WiFi.
This capability allows you the established Content Creator or Business Professional to Go Live from almost anywhere or anytime you may need or want to.
If you are unsure how to do this or would like to learn more about how to do this,
Until the next installment...
